The eight-limbed Yoga of Patanjali is a science that helps an individual to:
- Heal the trauma and recover from post-traumatic stress syndrome
- Attain complete emotional and mental health
- Experience happiness, love, and peace
- Transform the mind
- Transcend the human condition to live in conscious self-realization
In this course, Yoga will be described and explored using the narratives of the ancient wisdom of the Patanjali’s Yoga sutra and the contemporary insights of the brain and life sciences.
You will learn Theory and Practice:
Theory
- Introduction to Samkhya teaching of sage Kapila – the source of Yoga
- Introduction to Yoga sutra of Patanjali
- Five Chitta vritti or mental oscillations
- Five Kleshas or afflictions of the mind
- Eight limbs of yoga, including various Samadhis
- Explaining eight limbs through the neurobiological perspective
Practice
- A series of Sukhasanas or somatic poses
- Pranayama or breathing
- Dhyana or meditation
There will be an equitable distribution of time in every session between theory and practice.
Course Duration
Two Semesters for the 2022–2023 academic year
The first semester with 14 sessions will start on Tuesday, Sept 13, 2022, and end on Tuesday, Dec 13, 2022. Time - 7 pm to 9 pm Eastern (Toronto/New York) Time
The second semester with 6 sessions will start on Tuesday, Jan 17, 2023, and end on Tuesday, Feb 21, 2023. Time - 7 pm to 9 pm Eastern (Toronto/New York) Time
Besides regular sessions, participants will have an opportunity for one-on-one meetings with the faculty to go in-depth about various topics.
